Aim: Defend the attacking player, stopping them crossing the line to receive the ball on the other side. Groups of 3, one ball per group, within one-third of the netball court. Decide who is to be the passer, attacker and defender. Find a line on the court and divide so the passer is on one side of the line and the attacker and defender are on the other side. The passer faces away from the attacker and defender, throws the ball up in the air above their head, jumps and turns fully in the air to face attacker and defender, catches the ball and lands in a Stable Body Position (SBP) to signal to the players to prepare. The defending player tries to keep the attacker on the same side of the line and contest the pass. The defender scores 1 point if the attacker receives the ball on the same side or if they intercept/tip the ball away with their outside arm. The attaker will receive 1 point if they catch the ball on the passers side of the line.
Angle body slightly to sight ball and opponent. Arms down close to sides of body. Quick footwork. Move towards the ball using short, sharp steps. Think about where the passer is likely to pass the ball.
