Two attackers (C and WA) pass the ball between them (static) whilst defender runs in a figure of 8 around them. At key points when WD is behind or beside an attacker about the receive the ball, WD will intercept the ball and then feed it back to the attackers to repeat.
Timing is key! - ensure that working defenders (WD in this case) focus on getting their timing of interception accurate, ensuring they run onto the ball, even if it means waiting for a moment behind the attacker before intercepting. Initially let the participants run through the drill before giving coaching points then ask for feedback. Beginners or those less familar with the drill will run around the attacker normally, after this some may have considered quicker tactics for getting around the attacker (ie. rolling off the attacker by doing a reverse pivot).
