Put your players into pairs of equal size/strength and then get pairs to number themselves 1 and 2. Play some wrestling games such as flipping the player onto their back from the kneeling position and pinning the player on the back for 3 seconds. Feel free to play any alternative wrestling games. Set up your pairs so one is on all 4's and other is knealt beside them. The player on all 4's has to try and remain in that position. Their partner has to try and flip them on their back.
Tackling, rucking, mauling and so on use concentric and eccentric actions and varied movement patterns all at once unlike traditional gym exercises. Many of the gym based exercises are very good at developing raw strength and power but wrestling transfers that adaptation into a functional, rugby specific application and is good fun!
