DRILL TYPE: Racquet Skills FOCUS: Groundstrokes Progressions SKILL LEVEL: Red/ Orange Ball 2 EQUIPMENT: (6) Cones (2) Basket of Red/ Orange Balls Youth Racquets SETUP: Setup the (6)cones in the court, (2) cones on both singles sideline ( 1 at the baseline, 1 at the service line. Setup the other (2) cones in the center of the court ( 1 at the center mark at the baseline, 1 at the service line at the T, ( See diagram) The coaches are near the net posts with a basket of balls. The students are lined up behind the baseline. DRILL: One at a time, students will hit a feed ball from the coaches ,the students will hit a forehand or backhand and try to hit a cone. NOTE: For the safety of the players, make sure there is safe zones for the hitters. Players who are not hitting should stay behind the baseline at a safe distance.
Make sure the players are using good hitting techniques ( ready position and turning the body sideways to hit the ball. Making sure the players return to the ready position after every hit.
