DRILL TYPE: Groundstrokes EQUIPMENT: (4) Poly Spots (2 Yellow), (2 Blue) (2) Youth Racquets Foam Balls or Red Balls SETUP: Place 2 Yellow Poly Spots on the service line, 2 Blue Poly Spots in the middle of backcourt ( yellow spot is the hitting spot and the blue spot is the shadowing spot). See diagram. The coaches are on the opposite side of the net with a basket of foam or red balls. MISSION: Divide the group intro two lines behind the baseline. The coach will demonstrate the drill to the players. The first group players will come to the spots, two players are the hitters and the other two the shadowers. The coaches will hand feed a ball to to the hitters, who will hit the ball over the net and the shadowers will shadow the swing of the hitter. After hitting and shadowing, the hitters move to the end of the line and the shadowers move up to the hitting spots. NOTE: This drill can be done on both forehands and backhands groundstrokes.
GRIP: Eastern grip ( forehand groundstroke). Hammer grip ( backhand groundstroke). Stance: Make sure they are standing side to target ( make a little T). Swing from low to high ( point strings to the target). Follow-through over your opposite shoulder ( video recorder).
