Test your players' rallying level
This week's Sportplan session is going to push your players hard and see just how well they can really rally; hitting the ball deep, varying their shot selection and waiting for the right moment to move forwards and attack the short ball.
Last week Andy Murray defeated Federer 7-5, 7-5 in what should have been the Swiss man's Cup (after all it was called the Rogers Cup). This victory was all the more impressive when you take into account the fact that the Scotsman had to get past David Nalbandian and Rafael Nadal in the previous rounds, all the while playing without a coach. This victory is a perfect example of what players can achieve through hard work, determination and good, solid aggressive tennis.
To get your players working hard like Andy Murray this week we look at ways to improve your players' rallying from behind the baseline, waiting for the ideal moment to drive forward and strike the killer blow.
Designed to accommodate groups large or small, just a few of the drills in this week session include with a rallying rotation drill where each player must concentrate and rally for one minute before being substituted (whilst the point is still being played) by a third player.
There's also a game where your players will then need to concentrate if they want to be the first to 10 points. Playing inside in the Tram lines, each shot that your players hit that stays within the lines wins the pair one point but go outside and they risk losing one!
