Driving for Boundaries Front f...

1 side bats and the other fields. Each batter gets 3 feeds each and extra ones if they hit the ball over the boundary, and if the ball if left another feed is given. If the ball is hit over the boundary in the air then no runs are rewarded otherwise if on ground they get 4 runs. If they get out they lose 6 runs but carry on until out of feeds. Fielders must stay in boundary to try to stop the ball going over it for runs.

<br />Organisation: Organise as in the diagram in groups of 5 people. Server stands in the cirlce and drops a tennis ball at arms length from well below eye level. Batter strikes the ball as it bounces for the second time.<br /><br />Equipment: 1 bat and tennis ballper group, 2 marker cones and chalked lines.

Divide the group into groups of 4 and organise as shown in the diagram. Player (1) drives the ball off the tee at the target. If the distance is more than 11 metres players (2) and (3) attempt to stop the ball and return it to player (4) who replaces the tee and ball. Players rotate roles after 5 attempts. If the distance is less than 11 metres players (2) and (3) remain behind the batter and collect rebound from the wall. Equipment: 1 bat, tennis ball and tee per group. 2 marker cones and chalked lines.

Split the group so there is between 3-6 people in each net (including thrower or use coach). The thrower stands at the stumps whilst the rest queue up to bat at the other end. Two cones are placed to provide the target to drive the ball through. Each batsmen gets 2-3 consecutive balls then must go to the back of the queue. If the ball is left they may have another go. Once the batsmen drives the ball through the cones he must run to the stumps and back. <br /><br />Feeding: Each batsmen receives 24 balls and must be from a kneeling or standing position (depending on age and height). The ball should be short of a length, away from the batsmen, bouncing between knee and waste height.<br /><br/ Competition: To score 30 runs without getting out, with any shot played into the air being out. Competitions can also be set up between groups to see which group of batsmen can get the highest score with the thrower being from an opposition group.

Split the group into 2 equal groups. 1 team are the batters and the other side are the fielders. Each player on the batting team has 3 attempts to strike either a ball off a T or a dropped ball between the cones. The fielding team stand between the cones and the wall/  boundary. They have to gather the ball and throw it to their wicket keeper who returns the ball to the batter. Batters can be caught or run out.

<BR>Setup the practice as shown.Coach throws on one knee.All fielders except the wicket keeper and the player backing up must stand on the boundary between the cones until the ball is bowled. (Coach keeps hold of the ball when feeding every so often, to check whether fielders are moving too early).<BR>The Ball must be driven towards the target area, along the ground, and not defended. It must pass the first set of cones or the batsman is out. The batsman must complete 2 runs after striking the ball. The ball must be hit in the V to score runs. If it is hit outside that area or behind the wicket the batsman is out. (Give younger players another feed.)The wicket keeper must take incoming throws to the stumps either side of the original ones. Off side shots must be thrown to stumps on the off side (safety) and likewise on the leg side. Scoring: (Batsman bat one at a time):<br>4 runs if the ball is hit through the target area along the ground.<BR>2 runs if the ball is hit towards the boundary and the batsman completes 2 runs.<BR><b>Penalty runs</b><BR> 2 runs if a fielder stops the ball with his foot.<BR>1 run if a fielder move off the boundary too early.<BR>4 runs if the player backing up the wicket keeper misses the ball (when boundary is not hit).Ways of getting out: Bowled, caught, stumped, run out (no LBW). Also: not completing 2 runs after hitting the ball (unless boundary is hit); hitting the ball outside the V; not hitting the ball past the first set of cones; hitting the ball over the fielders on the boundary.

<BR>Setup the game as shown.The coach throws from approximately 10 paces away. Mark the front foot and back foot target areas on the floor with chalk or markers. Use markers for fielders to stand on or next to. Make sure that the batsman does not bat for too long (e.g. retire at 20)Position all markers so the batsman can just about run a single without being run out.

Two teams have 3 shots each (moving out to drive) which they must play as a drive shot. If they don't they will out. Fielders (3), (4) and (5) must collect the rebounds (or direct hits if there are no walls for you to use) and try to run out the batman. Players 1 and 2 are to back up incoming throws. If the ball hits the side wall 4 runs are awarded. If the ball is hit along the ground past the fielders 4 runs are awarded. If the ball is hit over head, six runs are awarded. Batsmen must complete 2 runs if they hit the ball and do not hit a boundary. Teams get a certain number of lives which are lost when out, they keep batting until all their lives are used.

Each batter gets 6 feeds. Drill is best done in nets where available (2 grounds per net in opposite directions). Can be done in pairs/ groups of three with 6 tennis balls per group. The feeder bobble feeds the ball towards the batter who aims to drive the ball through the target cones. Encourage players to wear at least batting gloves when doing this drill.

Divide players into two teams and then pair up all your players. Each pair should get to bat for two overs each. Each pair starts with 20 runs and can be out if they are bowled, caught, stumped, run out or if you hit your own wicket. Every time a batter is out 5 points are knocked off their total and batters swap places. The winning pair is the one which finishes with the most runs.

5-6 batters and fielders are needed for this circuit. On the batter's call of &quot;YES&quot; the batters have to run two lengths while the fielding player 1 rolls the ball to fielder 2. Fieder 2 then runs in and throws the ball to the wicket keeper and tries to run out the batsman (1).

One Day Singles Cricket Condit...

10-12 players are needed for singles cricket and players should pair up so that they can bat and bowl in pairs. Each pair has 1-2 wickets, once these have been used those players are out. The rules change depending on how many runs are scored. If the batsmen have scored between 0 and 15 runs they are allowed 3 good balls in which they must hit the ball and run, otherwise lose a wicket. If they have scored between 15-30 runs the batsmen have 2 good balls in which they must hit the ball and run, otherwise lose a wicket. Above 30 runs you must play hit and run, regardless of how the ball comes. Above 40 runs the batsmen are awarded a bonus, if not out, of 10 runs and then they must retire.

The batting team bats until all the batsmen are out. The last batsman has unlimited number of balls. If a batsman hits a 4 another ball is bowled.Individual Rules - Each individual bats until he is out. Once a batsman is out, all the fielders move clockwise, one round from their previous position.<BR>(B) Each individual batsman has 6-8 balls. If he is out he scores -4.

5-6 fielders and batsmen will be needed for this circuit. When the batting side is ready they must try and run to the other end before the fielding side have caught the ball behind the wickets. When the batting player (1) shouts <em>YES</em> the fielder (1) rolls the ball out to the next fielder (2) and then runs behind the stumps to back up. If the ball reaches the wickets before the batting players then those players have been run out. Fielder (2) then throws ball to the fielder behind the stumps and Fielder (2) goes to Fielder (1)'s old position on the cone. Fielder (1) throws the ball to fielder (2) before joining the back of the fielding queue and the drill starts again.

<BR>Each time ball is driven through cones you score 2 and you do not run. If defended, you score 1 and must run 2. If you miss the target you stay at that end for another delivery.<BR>In 1st net each individual batsmen runs to marked point and then back.<BR><BR><b>Set Targets</b> for each net (eg. 1 wicket left with 30 runs needed). When out second time your score returns to 0. Any shots into the air means you are out.

Set up two cones half way down the wicket, one central and one leg side.Feed from a bobble feed.Batter to hit from the front foot drive set position, knees and feet facing down the wicket, and aiming for one of the two cones. If the shot is an on drive (towards left cone), batter to hold the shape, and take small steps towards the direction of the shot to the cone. If the shot is a straight drive (middle cone), batter to simply hold the shape.
