Complete Ground Fielding Drill

Wicketkeeper starts with the ball and rolls out the the fielder in the square leg position. Square leg fielder picks up the ball and aims a throw at the ramp. Fielder at point gets in line with the throw and catches/collects the ball from the throw and then releases a throw at the non-strikers end single stump. Mid-on fielder backs up this throw and gives an underarm throw to the extra cover fielder who has moved im behind the non-strikers end stump. Extra cover completes the drill by throwing the ball back into the wicketkeeper.

(see c50031 & c50031b for more info)HOOKFor this shot wear a helmet for safety and realism.(A) Feed a one-bounce dart feed from standing up (throw the feed with pace so it bounces between chest and head height); or (B) field from one knee, underarm throw upwards, around shoulder height (no bounce).In a small sports hallHit into a wall and fielders will get the rebound or catch. Important - no fielders within the target area. Batsman stands at least 8 metres from the wall.Outside or in a large sports hallFielders stand within the target area. At least 15 metres from the batsman.

Two players per team, stood about 4-5 metres apart between two cones (the goal). Both teams must try to protect their goals by stopping the opposition from throwing the ball through their goal. Using only underarm throws players must try and score in their opponent's goal. A goal is awarded every time their opponent either drops the ball or fails to prevent it passing between their cones.

Organisation: Divide the group into pairs. Organise the practice as shown in the diagram. Aim is to beat partner, using underarm throw. One point is given for every time the ball passes between the markers.Equipment: 1 ball per pair, 4 marker cones per pair.

Set up two cones, 10m apart and 10m from the target stump.(This drill is best performed in front of a net as shown).Coach rolls the balls out one after another down the middle of the two cones.As the balls come out players must attack them one at a time, running diagonally from alternate cones, to pick up the ball and throw them back looking to hit the stump.Players then join the back of opposite queue.

Soon as ball is feed out by 1) or 3) they run up the side and join the back of the queue.

The first player rolls the ball out to player 2 (in the opposite line) who runs to meet the ball and performs an under arm flick back to player 1. Player 1 runs with the ball into the middle and puts it down before joining the back of the other queue. As soon as this player has run to the back of this line the next player goes.

<BR>Wicket keeper rolls the ball out straight. (1) throws it to keeper. Just as he throws it (2) feeds out ball for under arm flick. (2) stops ball, (1) goes to stumps, (2) throws ball over stumps to (1). (2) joins back of queue and (1) takes the position of where (2) was. Repeat from other side so (6) goes next.

<br />Teams of 3-6 people for as many groups as you like. Player (3) runs up to the ball and does an under arm flick to (1) who puts tha ball back in the middle and then goes to the back of the other queue. The first team who gets back to the same position they started wins.

1) picks up the ball and must throw over the top of the stumps so the ball rebounds straight between the two cones. He stops the rebound and replaces the ball on the spot and then 2) repeats. First team to get 10 rebounds through the cones wins. If a ball goes outside the line of cones your score goes back to 0.<BR>Variation:- do not replace the ball, but when the ball hits the wall No 2) goes, and so on.

5-6 fielders and batsmen will be needed for this circuit. When the batting side is ready they must try and run to the other end before the fielding side have caught the ball behind the wickets. When the batting player (1) shouts <em>YES</em> the fielder (1) rolls the ball out to the next fielder (2) and then runs behind the stumps to back up. If the ball reaches the wickets before the batting players then those players have been run out. Fielder (2) then throws ball to the fielder behind the stumps and Fielder (2) goes to Fielder (1)'s old position on the cone. Fielder (1) throws the ball to fielder (2) before joining the back of the fielding queue and the drill starts again.

Player 1 rolls the ball out for player 2 to run onto and catch. Player 2 flicks the ball back to 1 who catches it and puts it down. Player 3 then rolls the ball out towards player 1, who runs towards 3, flicks the ball at 4 who catches it and puts the ball down. Drill continues in this way...

Two teams pass the ball to their team mates with an overarm throw which must bounce only once and then must be caught. Using the throws to advance towards the opposition's grid players must not step inside the grid. When they get close enough they can throw at the stumps. If they miss a team mate can run around the back of the stumps to catch the ball. If caught that team can have another shot, if the opposition catch the ball they then move back up the field to the opposition's grid.
