2 v 1 (Left To Right)

Three players set up in a triangle formation, with the two attackers as the base of the triangle. The ball carrier is on the left side The ball carrier makes a positive run towards the outside of the defender Player without the ball (support player) runs into space to receive a pass and communicates they are ready to receive the pass The defender should get attracted to the ball and ball carrying attacker. As soon as the defender engages, the ball carrier should pass right to the supporting player

Eliminating a Player

Eliminating a Player

4 v 2 in area

Players are trying to keep possession of the ball for as long as possible. Players inside the area can use the two players on the outside of the grid to help them keep the ball.

Conditioned game - 2 Jokers outside

In the grid play a 5 vs 5 or 4 vs 4 possession hockey game. There a two jokers stood at either end of the area. These two players may receive the ball from either team and are stood in the scoring zone. The aim is to play possession hockey and use the two Jokers. Everytime the team in possession passes the ball to a joker and receives a pass back they score a point. The first team to score 5 consecutive points is the winner.

Defensive Awareness

The attackers (Red Players) have to try and dribble the ball around one of the red cones in the middle and then go back through their gate without being tackled by one of the defenders. Every time the attackers do this successfully they score a point. The defenders are allowed to roam anywhere they like inside the red grid in order to tackle the attackers.

Set out 6 cones in grid 10 by 10 metresThe practice is to run with the ball to the 1st cone were the player lifts up the ball into space over a pretend stick (you could put a stick on the floor)Then the player should regain control of the ball move their feet round and pass the ball across to the other side.

Passing & Receiving

Pass and receive static wall

Split your group in half. The white team each has a ball. The blue team position themselves evenly around the coned area and remain static. The white players make a pass to one of the static players but are not allowed to receive the ball from the same player so they must move around the grid to find a new ball. On receiving a different ball, they then carry the ball and look for a new player to make the next pass to

Player 1 feeds player 2 on the run in the grid. Player 2 then feeds player 3 on the run in the grid. Player 3 then plays a wall pass with player 4 and shoots.

Switch and Pass with drop off

Player 1 starts the drill by passing to player 2. On receiving the pass player 2 runs with the ball towards the next cone on the opposite side.Player 1 also starts to run at this moment. As player 1 and 2 cross paths player 2 offloads the ball to player 1 who dribbles it around the next cone.Player 2 continues their run (without the ball) around the cone.Both players repeat this pattern to the end of the grid.

Through Pass

A line of attacking players stand outside the 23 metre line with a ball each, with one other attacking on the goal side of the grid. Inside the grid there is one defender. The first attacking player has to try and play the ball to the player in the circle through the area with the defender. On playing a successful pass the player then follows their pass through the area, into the circle and the next player can try and pass the next ball through the area.

Set up a square grid 5x5m with one player in the middle and 3 players on the outside and one player passing the ball into the player in the centre of the grid. Players on the outside cannot intercept the ball coming into the grid they can only try to stop the player in the middle coming out of the grid. The players on the outside of the grid can only enter the grid once the player has received the ball.

Divide a 23m area into 6 equal grids with one player from both teams in each grid with a keeper in each goal. Players are only allowed to play in their allocated grid. Players play a 7v7 game with the following rule: When a player is in possession they are not allowed to run with the ball - they can only pivot on the spot while looking for a pass. Players have to move into space to create options for a team-mate on the ball so they can look to receive the ball. The team in possession can pass to each other (grid to grid) to try and score a goal.

The practice becomes live as soon as the first pass is played by the player with the ball on the half way line. 1 has to play the ball to player 2 as the first pass, after this any pass is allowed. Player 2 has to run onto the moving ball collect and keep moving to pass the ball back to the other side .for player 3 to run onto the ball. Each player has to run to the back of the opposite side each time they have passed the ball.

Set up two grids wide on the half way line. Tell the players to play 3v3 possession in the box. Have two player waiting in the 23m area. When the ball is played outside the 2 areas on the halfway line it is the team that did not push the ball out to break. The team mate on in the 23m area has to come to the ball to receive the first pass. (other player can try to defend. The player that touched the ball out of the grid is the defender that can try to stop the breaking team scoring. The other 2 players wait in the grid.

Set out the grid as shown with 2 goals either side of the defender. 1 player starts with the ball and has to run into contact with the defender (draw the defender) on doing so the player with the ball can decide to continue and try to run round the defender or turn away from the defender keeping possession of the ball and pass the ball to the supporting player who is only allowed to come into the grid and help if they have received the ball. Now the 2 player can play a 2 v 1 and try to score a goal.

Two lines of players with 1 ball per grid. Player 1 passes the ball to player 2 who runs to the opposite cone. Player 3 makes their intercepting run as the player makes their pass, trying to intercept the ball before it reaches player its intended recipient. If they successfully intercept the ball they make a pass to player 4. Exercise start again. Player 1 runs straight to receive the ball from player 4 and player 2 has to try and intercept the ball and pass the ball to player 5.
