Add Some Variety

Coach feeds short balls to the player. Player alternates offensive shot and drop shot.

Coach feeds balls to the backhand side. Player alternates backhand drive and backhand slice in cross court direction.

Centre Mix

Coach and player rally together. Coach hits different balls (left, right, high, low). Player responds with volleys/overheads to the centre.

Volley Drills

Deep Forehand And Backhand Drill

Players will be fed 2-6 balls each. The balls are hit down the line into the target area as marked by the cones. The feeding can be varied i.e. higher, faster or with more spin.

Coach feeds short balls to one side. Player alternates between aggressive drive and drop shot.

Quick Change

Coach stands in front of the player and feeds random balls (Forehand, Backhand, Low, Short, Deep etc). Player has to react and adjust to incoming balls.

Coach hits a variety of shots including :- Top Spin Slice Lob Drives The player has to say aloud which shot it will be as soon as they see it, which could be before the ball is struck.

Toss Variety - Kick Serve

Player learns how to toss the ball into the proper spot. Coach stands on the right of the player (slice serve) or on the left of the player (kick serve). Player tries to toss the ball into the coach's hand. Players have to be able to vary the toss according to the serve they want to execute. Slice, kick serve and flat serves require slightly different tosses to make chances bigger for effective results. For the kick serve, toss to the left side is a necessity to successfuly deliver the ball with high and unexpected bounce. Hitting from the left to the right will add spin responsible for ball bounces to the right side. Tossing the ball to the left helps also with contacting the ball at lower point (in opposite to any other serve) which has an impact on loopy trajectory of the serve.

Player tries to toss the ball into the coach's hand. Players have to be able to vary the toss according to the serve they want to execute. For the slice serve, players have to learn how to toss the ball slightly to the right side to have possibility to hit outside of the ball and create sidespin. It will also force players to go more across the body with the racquet what will result in better angles.

If the coach moves far behind the baseline player should hit a drop shot.Drill specifications:4 repetitions per setSmall number of repetitions is required to achieve quality work. Peripheral vision is one of the skills that is necessary to effectively execute offensive strokes. Waiting players should work on making quick decisions after the visual sign so coach should prepare physical drills based on quick reaction.
