DESCRIPTION

Two players are passing the ball between them in a consistent rhythm.

The defender stands behind one of the attackers and has to try and time their move to get in front and intercept the ball. Following the successful interception the defender passes the ball to the opposite player and then runs to the other side, ready to intercept again!

COACHING POINTS

Players swap after 10 successful interceptions.

Intercepting - group | Interception

Intercepting - group:

Split the group into minimum of 3 people with one ball per group.

Player 2 runs to the side to receive ball from player 1.

They then turn and feed the ball to player 3 (the next player waiting in line).

Player 3 feeds the ball back to player 1 as player 2 moves quickly through to try and intercept the pass.

overtake:

In pairs- 1 ball.  Stand behind each other jogging together up court.  Ball with backplayer.  She pops ball over head of front player who meets ball in air.  Back player then sprints in front of player who then pops ball over her head.  Continuous practice.

GK dancing:

3 Blue players pass ball to each other and attempt to pass the ball to a static player White 4 (varying types of passes). Defender Green 1 adjusts positioning according to the position of the ball and she attempts to intercept feed.

Progression:-

  • Attacker becomes a little more active.
  • Blue players make a smaller area so ball movement is quicker

    Competing for the ball:

    The feeder starts the drill by throwing the ball up for both players to compete for and try to gain control of the ball.

    Repeat and rotate roles after 5 passes.
