DESCRIPTION

In pairs. One person takes the lead and the other must follow as close as possible. On the command from the teacher the pair change direction and therefore change the leader.

COACHING POINTS

Use the lines to run around and stay as close as possible to the person in front.

OFTEN USED WITH...

Complete the square:

Working in a square in groups of 3 (with one corner left empty).

Player 2 sprints to the spare corner as player 1 starts to play the pass.

Upon receiving the ball blue 2 turns to throw the ball to the now empty corner which blue 3 sprints towards, ready to receive the pass.

Passing

Time your run - pass and move:

The Player with the ball passes to player in space on the left.
The player receiving the ball jumps into the air, prior to pass and turns in the air to receive ball, finishing up facing backwards to return ball to player in the same queue.
This player then passes diagonally to the right.

Movement

cross over:

Players run across the square to catch the ball and pass down the outside of the square.

Use cones to start with but once the players understand its better not to use cones.

Movement

Lead Running - Group Practice:

Players stand in a line spaced down the length of the court and the player at the end starts with the ball.

When everyone is ready the next person in line runs out to receive the pass.

The receiver then pivots and throws to the next person who has run out to receive the pass. Once the ball gets to the other side the ball comes back in the same way.
