Crossfire

Position 4 players from each team randomly within the area. Place a goalkeeper in each of the goals. The white team can score can score in the goals to the left and right of the diagram, while the blue team can score in goals at either the top or the bottom of the diagram. You can choose to make the goals 5 yards wide and play with no goalkeepers in a 6 v 6 within the area.

1) Player 8 plays to player 1 who returns the ballslightly wide. Running onto the wide pass player 8 passes the ball down the side to meet the diagonal run of player 4. 2) Player 4 shoots and player 1 makes a supporting diagonal run to the far post for rebounds.

Team stay in own half, except for 2 players from each team who are put in the other section. Each team shoots at earliest opportunity. Start the game with one ball and build it up to a number of balls. The two players in the opposite half score from rebounds or interceptions.

Power Shot 1

Set out three grids within the area according to the dimensions shown in the above diagram. Play 3 v 1 in each large area, plus a goalkeeper. The 3 blue players combine to dribble the ball past the lone white defender into the midfield area then shoot on the goal. The lone blue player in the other area follows up on rebounds from the goalkeeper. Repeat in the opposite direction. Rotate positions. Progressions:1. The lone defender can track the attacking player into the midfield area in an attempt to pressure the attacker or block the shot.2. Change the ratio of attackers to defenders to 3 v 2.

Receiving the pass - 2v1

Player 1 comes short to receive the ball from player 2; player 1 dummies and spins out left. Player 3 comes to take ball and passes back across for player 1 to shoot. Player 3 then goes to far post for rebounds.

Groups of six. Four balls per group. Position players as shown in the diagram. Repeat in another area for a total of 12 players. Red player 1 passes the ball to red server 3 who passes the ball back into the path of red player 1. Red player 1 shoots low and to the far post. Red player 3 turns and runs to the area at the far post to pick up any rebounds or shots wide of the target. Red player 3 becomes the goalkeeper. Blue goalkeeper goes to the back of the line and blue players 1 and 2 assume the pass and serve positions. Repeat the practice and rotate positions. Save= 5 points; rebound= 3 points; goal= 5 points; shot on target= 3 points.Progression: Make blue player 1 a defender.

Create a halfway line in the area using discs. Store soccer balls behind each goal. Play 4 v 1 in each half with a goalkeeper. The goalkeeper serves the ball to any of his teammates in his half. They must get a shot on the goal in the opposite field. The lone player in that area is a defender trying to block the shot. The lone player in the opposite area is the cherry picker, following in on the goalkeeper for rebounds. Repeat in the opposite direction. Progression: Take away the halfway line and progress to a full field game of 6 v 6.

Player 1 jogs backwards to the far cone and then sprints out to the first cone, ready to receive the pass from player 1.Player 2 must take only one touch to set themselves for their shot on goal.After shooting the first ball player 2 should then run into the box to pounce onto the ball played in by player 3.

GK makes the catch and gets ready for the next serve.If a rebound net is not available use a wall or get a player to perform side foot volleys into the GK.

A great drill for working with several keepers. The first player side-steps along the first line of the L-shaped cones with their head up. When they reach the end of the first line the feeder passes the ball into their body for them to catch and throw back. They then side-step out and back along the next line of cones where when they reach the end the feeder plays a low and hard driven ball for them to dive and catch / stop.
